I am about to wipe my pc and cannot for the life of me, find my cd key. I have my discs but the book is no longer in the box. My dad and I bought two copies from Game and I really need to upgrade my computer to windows 7 so we can get Black Ops II toomorrow.I really need to know how I can get my key or if it will still be registered to Steam and I can activate it back again that way. I know about some games where you can get the key from the registry and other such simple things but I am really unsure for this. A google on the subject just kept pointing to endless rubbish cracks and keygens which are of no interest or point to me.I am truly hoping someone can help here.

As some of you may know, Black Ops 2 does not work on Windows XP due to DX11Thanks in advance. Your son doesn't need to save any CD keys for games activated on Steam.All games activated on or bought over Steam are automatically stuck to the account.

So wherever you log in with the Steam account then you automatically have access to all the games on it also. You just need to download them. For some games you will still need the CD key to activate the Multiplayer or something but Steam shows you the key regardless. Call of Duty games don't need to be reactivated with a CD key or anything.And yeah Black Ops 2 won't work on XP because XP doesn't support DX11. Although as of April 2014 Windows XP isn't going to be supported by Microsoft anymore regardless.

After that I recommend you skip Vista and just go straight to Windows 7. You could upgrade to Windows 7 now if you wanted to, that runs fine with Black Ops 2. Thanks ever so much for the (fast) reply and good news. As we love to play together it is brilliant to hear we are covered in this respect.

It only ever asks you to type the key in once which was to activate and stick the key to the Steam account. Provided you have access to the Steam account then you will always have access to all of your games. You can even throw the disc + key away if you want to. Although I would keep the disc as it saves you having to redownload the whole thing after you format.Downloading from Steam is fine, although it may take a while longer to do depending on your Internet speed and the size of the game you are downloading (MW3 for example is almost 18GB with all DLCs)And, you're welcome.
